Are you looking for a well insulated cooler but don't want to break the bank?
I purchased the 65 quart RTIC Hard Cooler back in 2021. After seeing what people were saying about this cooler, I thought I would give it a shot.
We used this during a camping trip for 9 days in the mountains of Colorado. The outdoor temps would range from being in the 30's during the night, and would get into the 80's at peak day. Overall it kept things frozen for the first part of the trip, and then things slowly started to unthaw over the second half we were there. It kept ice the whole time, not all of it, but I would say half of the ice was still there at the end of the trip.
Things I like:
You can tell right away just how heavily insulated it is. Thick walls. Thick lid. Tough exterior.
The seal gasket on the lid makes a great contact when closed. I was hesitant about the rubber pull straps, but they work great to keep it sealed.
It is very durable. We put it in the truck bed along with a lot of other gear, and didn't have any concern about damaging it.
Rubber feet on the bottom. When we placed it in the bed of the truck, it was obvious that it was not going anywhere because of these. Which was great.
Things I wish could be better:
The handle design makes it somewhat difficult to move around with just one person. It feels like its unstable with the rope handles. However, very simple if you have another person.
The weight. Even when its empty, it is heavy. Once we had it full, it was undoubtable a two person job to get it out of the truck.
The rubber feet. Yes I know that I like these for stability when we are driving so it isn't moving around. However, do not expect to slide this on any terrain, the ground, concrete, kitchen floor, ect. These rubber feel lock this up, you have to lift it in order to move it.
Conclusion:
We love this cooler and we will be buying more in the different sizes. Just wish it had some wheels on one end.
